In 1989, the Berlin wall was over : it was the end of more than 40 years of cold war. The longer portion of the wall that was not destoyed, a 1.3km-long section near the center of Berlin, was converted in 1990 into 'The Berlin Wall East Side Gallery', the largest open air gallery in the world. Approximately 106 paintings by artists from 22 countries covered this memorial for freedom. In 1992, it was converted into a historical monument. But, time and pollution, and more over, graffers, are acting, and 20 years after, the work is covered by thousands of graffiti. This portion and the wall 'Berlyn' was painted by Gerhard Lahr.
